Development of key biorefining “proof-of-concept” processes at 1kg DB and their inclusion in conceptual designs of prototype biorefineries.

Results

  • Development and experimental validation with wheat straw and corn stover of:
      • Batch pretreatment 2 L
      • Continuous pretreatment 3 kg/hr
      • Batch enzymatic saccharification 4 L
      • Batch fermentation 4 L
      • Batch dark fermentation 4 L
      • Batch purification 30 L
      • Batch biogas production 10 L
  • Conceptual design of biorefineries at a 10² ton/day DB scale, including the coproduction of advanced bioethanol, biohydrogen and biogas and the production of biobutanol.
  • Residual lignin considered to produce biofertilizers. 
  • Impact assessment of these technologies in the National Energy Matrix Plan.
